One of the most popular hikes in Zion National Park is
The Narrows hike along the Virgin River through the narrowest part of Zion Canyon. This is a sought-after location in Zion National Park, with towering walls a thousand feet high and a river that, in places, narrows down to merely twenty to thirty feet wide. Begin your adventure with this beautiful hike along Riverside Walk, accessible to wheelchairs and extending one mile from the Temple of Sinawava. Want to take your experience to the next level? Step into the Virgin River and give your adventure a serious kick-up. Whether you wade briefly upstream or take an all-day hike, The Narrows will give you hiking memories for a lifetime.
For a real adrenalin-rich adventure that's sure to get your pulse racing,
Angels Landing needs to top your list. This 5.4-mile out-and-back hike continues up the West Rim Trail from the Grotto, then ascends to Scouts Lookout. You will cross over a very narrow ridge to Angels Landing from there, taking in some of the finest views of Zion Canyon. This is not a hike for the faint of heart. There may or may not be tricky maneuvering, use of chains at cliff edges, and steep inclines.
A second popular destination in Zion National Park is
Observation Point. This point, towering impressively at 6,521 feet high on Mount Baldy, gives a view into all the major attractions in Zion Canyon. This point is close to the Big Bend, and offers hikers a splendid view of the lower end of the canyon.
The Emerald Pools trail system offers options to visit 1-3 different pools and 3 different paths. The hikes range from easy (accessible with a stroller) to moderate, with a little rise in elevation. The entire hike would be 3 miles out-and-back. Of the three pools, Lower Pool is easiest to reach. The Middle Pool is quite lush, with hanging gardens of ferns, moss, and other plants. The Upper Pool is a beautiful oasis-like getaway in this desert region. There are plenty of wildlife spotting opportunities along the way as well as places one can stop to look out over the view across Zion Canyon. Learn more about variations of this hike from our
Emerald Pools Trail page.
