Sandy, Utah is a city located near the Wasatch Mountains in Salt Lake County. The population of Sandy was estimated to be around 91,738 people as of July 2020. From its early beginnings as an agricultural settlement to its present-day role as one of the fastest-growing cities in Utah, there’s something for everyone in Sandy.

The city has a rich history that dates back to 1849 when pioneers first arrived in the area as part of the Mormon migration. Many of the original buildings from this early time still stand today, giving the area an authentic and historic flair. Over time Sandy grew to become an important agricultural center in the valley, producing hay, potatoes, onions, and vegetables. Today Sandy is a thriving suburban city with plenty for visitors to do and experience.

The best way to get an overview of the city is to start at the center which is home to many of Sandy’s attractions. The South Towne Mall is located in the heart of town and this place offers a variety of shopping and dining experiences for locals and visitors alike. Sandy also has an IMAX theater, making it the perfect place to catch a movie.

Sandy is also home to many other attractions such as the Sandy Amphitheater, which hosts concerts throughout the summer, and the Sandy Public Library. There is also plenty of outdoor recreation in Sandy, including hiking trails at Dimple Dell Regional Park and golf courses like The Ridges at Sand Hollow.

History

Sandy was officially incorporated in 1893 and has been growing ever since. In the early 20th century Sandy developed its own streetcar line that ran from Salt Lake City to Sandy, allowing for commerce and transportation between the two cities. The streetcars stopped running in 1945, but much of their infrastructure is still visible today.

Sandy also boasts a number of historical buildings and landmarks. The Historic Sandy City Hall, which has been standing since 1921, is an example of the city’s commitment to preserving its past. Not far from City Hall is the South Towne Exposition Center, which was originally built in 1903 as a fairground and is now used for events such as conventions and rodeos.

Sandy Amphitheater
The Sandy Amphitheater is the city’s premier entertainment venue, hosting a variety of concerts throughout the summer. Experience live performances with a capacity of 2,700 at The Amphitheater! Choose between 2,000 reserved theater seats or opt for a more laid-back vibe on the lawn with 700 spaces available for you to soak in the entertainment on your blankets or lawn chairs.

South Towne Mall

The South Towne Mall is the largest mall in Salt Lake County, with more than 140 stores, restaurants, and entertainment options. The mall also has a two-story carousel for kids of all ages.

America First Field

The home of the Real Salt Lake soccer team, America First Field is an impressive 20,000+ seat stadium. The venue is perfect for catching a game or attending a concert featuring some of today’s hottest acts.

Hale Center Theatre
