Utah Valley University

Utah Valley University (UVU) is an open-access public university located in Orem, Utah. Founded in 1941 as Central Utah Vocational School, UVU has grown to become a comprehensive regional teaching university serving more than 41,000 students from across the globe. UVU offers over 180 programs of study through six colleges and one school, ranging from liberal arts to health sciences and from business to engineering.

History

UVU was founded in 1941 as Central Utah Voc School by the Utah State Board of Education. The school initially focused on training students with skills needed for the war effort and growing industrial industries, such as welding and machining. In 1963, it became a two-year college and changed its name to Utah Trade Technical Institute.

The school was again renamed in 1969 to Utah Technical College, and then again in 1987 to its current name, Utah Valley University.

Today, UVU is a comprehensive regional teaching university that serves over 41,000 students from around the world with more than 180 degree programs. It is also accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities and is a member of the Utah System of Higher Education.

Current Enrollment

UVU currently has over 41,000 enrolled students, with about 60 percent of them coming from Utah and the other 40 percent coming from out-of-state. Those enrolled include undergraduate students, graduate students, part-time students, and more.

UVU also has a diverse student body that includes a variety of ethnicities and nationalities. In addition to offering its own degree programs, UVU has a variety of transfer programs in place that are designed to make the transition to college easier for students.
