History

Moab sits atop the ruins of Pueblo farming communities that go all the way back to the 11th and 12th century centuries. Moab was then settled by Mormon pioneers in the mid-19th century and it took the Mormon settlers nearly two decades to achieve permanent settlement in Moab due to Indian attacks and nomadic settlers. The original settlers named the area “Adobe Town” due to its abundance of adobe buildings, which were constructed using local materials such as sandstone, mud, and straw. Since then, Moab has grown into a vibrant outdoor recreational destination.
