Museum in Anasazi State Park

Galleries that offer visitors insight into the lives of the ancient Anasazi people.

The Museum of Anasazi State Park is a unique and educational facility located in the heart of southeastern Utah's majestic red rock country. The museum consists of an outdoor archaeological park and indoor exhibit galleries that offer visitors insight into the lives of the ancient Anasazi people who inhabited this area for centuries. Visitors to the museum can explore recreated dwellings, enjoy a variety of interactive exhibits, and learn about the culture and history of these Native Americans.

The museum has numerous outdoor recreations that visitors can explore. Two examples are the Great House Pueblo and the Small House Ruin. The Great House Pueblo is a full-scale recreation based on archaeological evidence from an Anasazi settlement, located at the mouth of Grand Gulch. The Small House Ruin is an original ruin that was preserved by sand and mud before being excavated in 1978. Both sites offer visitors a glimpse into the lives of these ancient people and showcase their skills in constructing Adobe structures.

In addition to the outdoor exhibits, the Anasazi State Park Museum also offers a variety of indoor galleries. These include the Heritage Gallery, which highlights the history and culture of the Anasazi, and the Archaeology Gallery, which focuses on archaeological resources in Utah. The park also features a Children's Room with interactive activities for young visitors and various traveling exhibits on display throughout the year.

The museum also hosts a variety of special events throughout the year. These include educational lectures, archaeological field trips, and living history reenactments. Visitors can enjoy discovering the area’s archaeology on their own by participating in ranger-led tours or exploring on their own. Guided hikes are offered daily during warmer months, allowing visitors to witness spectacular views of the surrounding red rock terrain.
