The Ontario Drain Tunnel and the Weber/Provo diversion canal provide essential water resources to the area.

But Heber Valley's history extends far beyond its natural wonders. Before the 1850s, the Timpanogos Utes utilized these lands as a summer hunting ground. The first white men discovered its beauty when members of the Dominguez-Escalante expedition ventured through the county in 1776. Fur trappers such as Etienne Provost and William Henry Ashley explored the mountains in the early 19th century, seeking valuable beaver pelts.

In 1859, the first settlers arrived from Utah Valley and established a settlement near present-day Heber City. Since then, Heber Valley has flourished into a vibrant community, inviting visitors to experience its captivating landscapes, outdoor activities, and rich cultural heritage.

The geography of Wasatch County is dominated by the Wasatch Mountains and its western boundary is the Provo River. The county has a total area of 1,364 square miles with an elevation that ranges from 4,307 feet to 11,999 feet above sea level.

Wasatch Mountain State Park is located in the heart of Wasatch County and provides visitors with a wide array of recreational activities.
