Early History

The beginnings of Powder Mountain Ski Resort can be traced back to the early 1900s when a man by the name of Frederick James Cobabe bought the land for skiing. His son, Alvin, later inherited the land and in the late 1960s began developing it into a ski resort. Alvin Cobabe was a passionate skier who wanted to create a destination that would offer some of the best skiing conditions available.

In 1972, Powder Mountain Ski Resort officially opened to the public, and its popularity grew quickly among skiers nationwide. The slopes offered a variety of terrain for all levels of skiers and the surrounding scenery was absolutely breathtaking. The resort also began offering summer activities such as mountain biking, horseback riding, hiking, and fishing.

Ogden History

Ogden, Utah, about 21 miles from Powder Mountain, is the largest closest city to the resort and has a long and storied history. From rags to riches, Ogden has undergone a spectacular transformation since the early twentieth century. An avalanche of job opportunities in manufacturing and other industries led to a major population influx, further helping to spur the city's economic development. This momentum was further bolstered by the establishment of military bases during World War II. Ownership Changes

In 1999, Powder Mountain Ski Resort changed hands and the new owners made a major investment into the property. The resort was completely renovated and expanded, offering more ski trails and terrain parks than ever before. In addition to skiing, guests could now enjoy snowshoeing and snowmobiling as well as mountain biking in the summer months.

Since 2007, ownership has changed three more times and in 2013, Summit Series purchased the resort. The new owners have made a commitment to preserving the mountain’s pristine natural environment while adding modern amenities such as high-speed chairlifts, enhanced snowmaking capabilities, and top-notch lodging and dining experiences.

Recent History

Since its opening in 1972, Powder Mountain Ski Resort has become one of North America's most popular ski destinations. The resort has been able to keep up with the changing times by continually adding new features and modernizing its infrastructure. In 2009, the resort added a new high-speed quad chairlift, significantly improving guests' skiing experience.

The resort also expanded its summer activities in recent years, offering aerial zip lines and disc golf courses. The resort also has plenty of unexplored terrain for those looking to explore the backcountry and has recently opened its gates to snowmobilers.
