Capitol Reef Itinerary

Four Night / Five Day – Itinerary

Day 1:
Hike to the top of various rock formations or overlooks for stunning views of the park. Hickman Bridge hike is two miles round-trip. Other hikes range in distance and degree of difficulty.
Visit the Capitol Reef National Park Visitor Center to learn about the history and geology of the area.

Day 2:
Take a scenic drive through the park to see the beautiful red rock formations and stop at scenic
overlooks along the way.

Go horseback riding near the park with a guided tour.

Day 3:
Visit the Gifford Homestead Museum to learn about the history of the area and see how early settlers lived. Visit the Fruita Rural Historic District to see the old orchards and learn about the history of fruit cultivation in the area.

Day 4:
Explore various destinations outside Capitol Reef National Park such as North or South Caineville
Mesas, The Moonscape, Mars, the Dirty Devil River Basin, Thousand Lakes Mountain, or Boulder
Mountain.

Day 5:
Go shopping in the small town of Torrey, located just outside the park. There are a variety of local
artisan shops and galleries to explore.

Dining options in the park and surrounding area include:
American cuisine
Mexican cuisine
BBQ
Veg/vegan options
Local and regional specialties such as Navajo tacos and frybread
