They also established a school, irrigation systems, and roads that are still in use today.
In 1877, the St. George Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was dedicated and remains a key landmark in the city today. The temple’s completion marked a major milestone for the community, as it was at that point that it became an official part of the Utah Territory and began to develop into a prosperous town.

ST. GEORGE IN THE TWENTIETH CENTURY
The city quickly became a hub of commerce and industry, with businesses such as the St. George Cooperative Mercantile Institution providing goods to settlers. The first bank in Utah was also established in St. George, and several other businesses that are still in operation today were founded during this period.
